The great hymn, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” depicts a rich understanding of God forged through times of loss and loneliness. The hymn’s lyricist was a native of Dublin, Ireland, a man named Joseph Scriven (1820-1886). This is part of his story.
A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
*Proverbs 18:24 *
“No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
John 15:15
“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
Poem by Brother Lloyd who has amalgamated great Gospels hymns into a poem: A Poem made by hymn for Him
Here I am to worship
Before the throne of God above
Hosanna praise is rising
How deep the Fathers love
I will enter His gates with thanksgiving
Your name is a strong and mighty tower
Only You can fill my deepest longing
I need thee every hour
Take time to be holy
Give thanks with a grateful heart
Lord prepare me to be a sanctuary
Lord I give You my heart
What a friend we have in Jesus
For He has made me glad
How deep the Fathers love for us
How great is our God
You are my all in all
In Christ alone my hope is found
Jesus paid it all
On Christ the solid rock I stand
You are the rock of my salvation
My hope is built on nothing less
Be thou my vision
When I survey the wondrous cross
All the way my Saviour leads me
Lead me to the cross
Lead me to Calvary
We remember all You’ve done for us
Come thou fount of every blessing
Take my life and let it be
I can only imagine
forever singing …. HOLY HOLY HOLY!
